Poster published in Boston circa 1850 warning black citizens about the possibility of them being kidnapped and sold into slavery. Black citizens were frequently kidnapped in the northern United States by slave traders then smuggled and sold on the slave market in the south. Freed black slaves and free born blacks alike were targeted. Solomon Northrup's 1853 memoir, Twelve Years a Slave, tells of his abduction and subsequent years of slavery.
