The execution of James Scott, 1st Duke of Monmouth, 1st Duke of Buccleuch, 1649 - 1685. Monmouth, an illigitimate son of King Charles II was executed for treason on Tower Hill on July 15, 1685 after the failure of what has become known as the Monmouth Rebellion, also known as the Pitchfork Rebellion or the West Country Rebellion.
